If there is no winner at the end of normal time in a single-leg play-off (see Paragraph 17.01) or final tournament knockout match, two 15-minute periods of extra time are played. If the two teams are still equal after extra time, the winner is determined by a penalty shoot-out.
If the two teams involved in a two-legged play-off tie (see Paragraph 17.01) score the same number of goals over the two legs, two 15-minute periods of extra time are played at the end of the second leg. If both teams score the same number of goals or no goals are scored during extra time, the winner of the tie is determined by a penalty shoot-out (see Paragraph 22.04).
If extra time is required, there is a five-minute break between the end of normal time and the start of extra time. The players remain on the field of play during this five-minute break, at the discretion of the referee.
Penalties are taken in accordance with the IFAB Laws of the Game.
