Article 57 Player replacements and substitutions - EURO

57.01

After the match sheets have been exchanged, no changes are allowed. Before the match has kicked off, the following exceptions apply:

1. A starting player indicated as such on the match sheet who cannot be fielded due to physical incapacity may be replaced by one of the substitutes indicated on the match sheet. The replaced player is taken off the match sheet and the number of substitutes is reduced accordingly for the match in question.

2. A substitute indicated as such on the match sheet who cannot be fielded due to physical incapacity may not be replaced, which means that the number of substitutes is reduced accordingly for the match in question.

A player who is replaced in accordance with this paragraph is removed from the match sheet and may take no part in the match nor sit on the team bench or any additional seats reserved for team officials selected on the match sheet. To proceed with any such player replacement, the team concerned must submit to the UEFA match delegate a printed copy of the match sheet duly completed in relation to the specific change. If it fails to do so, any change made to the starting 11 indicated on the match sheet after the match sheets have been exchanged is considered a substitution. In addition, the team concerned must submit the medical replacement form to the UEFA administration within 48 hours of the end of the match, along with any necessary medical evidence. If it fails to do so or if UEFA finds any of the information provided by the team concerned to be inaccurate, the matter may be referred to the UEFA disciplinary bodies.

57.02

Up to five of the substitutes indicated on the match sheet may take part in the match. Additionally, a sixth substitute indicated on the match sheet may take part exclusively during extra time. A player who has been substituted may take no further part in the match. Each team may use a maximum of three stoppages in play to make substitutions (one additional stoppage in extra time can be used). Substitutions made before the start of the match, during half-time, between the end of normal playing time and extra time, and at half-time during extra time do not reduce the number of stoppages in play that can be used.

57.03

Any player selected on the match sheet in line with Article 56 or replaced in line with Article 57 may be selected to undergo a doping control after the match in accordance with Annex B of the UEFA Anti-Doping Regulations and must remain available in the stadium for 30 minutes after the end of the match. If a doping control officer is present at the match and a player selected on the match sheet is injured or falls ill and requires treatment in hospital, the doping control officer assesses the severity of the injury or illness and decides whether the player can leave the stadium to go to hospital immediately or whether they must undergo any potential doping control first.
