Article 15 Match system – qualifying phase - Women's Champions League

15.01

The first and second qualifying rounds are played in the form of mini-tournaments with semi-finals, a final and a third-place match, all single-leg ties, hosted by one of the participating clubs. If, due to rebalancing for the UEFA Women’s Champions League titleholder and/or due to the number of entries in the competition, the number of clubs in the first qualifying round of the champions path and/or the second qualifying round of the league path are not divisible by four, mini-tournaments may be played with three teams, with a single semi-final and one team qualifying automatically for the final. In all cases, if the score is equal at the end of normal time, two 15-minute periods of extra time are played. If one of the teams scores more goals than the other during extra time, that team is declared the winner. If the score is still equal after extra time, the winner is determined by a penalty shoot-out (see Paragraph 21.03). The winners of the finals qualify for the next round of their respective paths.

15.02

All third qualifying round ties are played under the knockout system, whereby each team plays each opponent twice, in home and away matches. The team that scores the greater aggregate of goals in the two matches qualifies for the league phase. If the two teams score the same number of goals across the two matches, Article 21 applies.

15.03

The UEFA administration may decide that a tie be played in one leg, if circumstances so require, and will set the principles for determining the winner accordingly.

15.04

Certain clubs eliminated in the qualifying phase of the UEFA Women's Champions League are admitted to the UEFA Women’s Europa Cup as shown in the table below.
