On 3 December 2020, the UEFA Executive Committee has approved the following amendments to the regulations of the 2020/21 UEFA Youth League.

13.03

As shown in Annex B, the competition consists of straight knockout single-leg ties, for which the round of 64 and round of 32 comprise two paths. The competition stages are as follows:

  • UEFA Champions League path:

    • Round of 64

    • Round of 32

  • Domestic champions path:

    • Round of 64

    • Round of 32

  • Round of 16

  • Quarter-finals

  • Semi-finals

  • Final.

13.04

The ties are determined by means of a draw. For all single-leg ties, the club drawn first plays at home.

14.01

The round of 64 is played in single-leg knock-out matches in accordance with Article 19 as follows:

  • UEFA Champions League path: The 32 teams from the UEFA Champions League path contest each other.

  • Domestic champions path: The 32 teams from the domestic champions path contest each other.

14.02

The round of 64 pairings are determined by means of an open draw. For the purposes of the draw, the UEFA administration may form groups and may include geographical conditions so that teams do not have to travel long distances. For the UEFA Champions League path, the UEFA administration also ensures that clubs in the same association cannot be drawn against each other.

The thirty-two winners of the round of 64 qualify for the round of 32.

The round of 32 is played in single-leg knock-out matches in accordance with Article 19 as follows:

  • UEFA Champions League path: The 16 teams from the UEFA Champions League path contest each other.

  • Domestic champions path: The 16 teams from the domestic champions path contest each other.

The round of 32 pairings are determined by means of an open draw. For the purposes of the draw, the UEFA administration may form groups and may include geographical conditions so that teams do not have to travel long distances. For the UEFA Champions League path, the UEFA administration also ensures that clubs in the same association cannot be drawn against each other.

The sixteen winners of the round of 32 qualify for the round of 16.

17.01

The eight winners of the UEFA Champions League path round of 32 play against the eight winners of the domestic champions path round of 32, for which the pairings are determined by means of a draw. This draw also determines which will be the home teams.

17.02

The round of 16 is played in single-leg knockout matches in accordance with Article 19.

17.03

The eight winners of the round of 16 qualify for the quarter-final.

Match system as from the quarter-final

18.01

The quarter-final, semi-finals and final pairings are determined by means of a draw. This draw also determines which will be the home teams. UEFA reserves the right to decide on the venue and dates of the quarter-final, semi-final and final.

Kick from the penalty mark

For round of 64, round of 32, round of 16, quarter-final, semi-final and the final match(es), which are all played in single-leg knockout matches, if the two teams involved in a tie score the same number of goals, no extra time is played at the end of normal playing time. Kicks from the penalty mark determine the winning team.

UEFA reserves the right to decide on the date of the quarter-final, semi-final and final, as well as on the date of matches that are televised (after consultation with the two teams) or on any other match date, if circumstances so require.

Unless the teams and UEFA agree otherwise, in principle the round of 64, round of 32, round of 16, and quarter-final are played in the matchweeks indicated in Annex C, on Tuesdays or Wednesdays.

20.06

If both teams and the UEFA administration agree, the round of 64, round of 32, round of 16, and quarter-final may also be played on other dates, provided they are completed before the following dates:

  1. round of 64: 11 March 2021;

  2. round of 32: 11 April 2021;

  3. round of 16: 25 April 2021;

  4. quarter-finals: 9 May 2021.

20.07

The match dates must be announced to opponents and the UEFA administration by the deadline set and communicated by the UEFA administration. In case of reasonable requests, changes may be made after these deadlines if both clubs and the UEFA administration agree. Such requests must be made to the UEFA administration at least one week before the scheduled match.

The home club must ensure that the stadium is easily accessible and located within an acceptable distance of an international airport.

The kick-off times for the round of 64, round of 32, round of 16, and quarter-final must be announced to the opponents and UEFA administration by the deadline set and communicated by the UEFA administration.

The list of 40 players has to be submitted by 23 February 2021 (24.00CET). No club may have more than 40 players on that list, at least three of whom must be goalkeepers.
