Work permit applications are closely linked to visa applications. This section is to be read together with the visa section.

EU/EEA (Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden) and Swiss citizens do not require an immigration permission or an employment permit in order to work in Ireland irrespective of duration.

Even though the United Kingdom left the European Union on 31 January 2020, UK citizens continue to have the protection of the Common Travel Area between Ireland and the UK and UK citizens can work in Ireland without restriction.

All other non-EEA/UK nationals require a valid employment permit or relevant immigration permission from the Irish Minister for Justice and Equality as described below.
