Maximum working hours per week must not exceed:
maximum 78 hours per week; and
a maximum average of 48 hours per week in each 16-week period.
This means that over a period of 16 weeks, maximum 768 working hours may be planned while considering the maximum average working time per period. For example, if staff works 60 hours (5x12 or 6x10) in a certain week, this needs to be compensated by a work week of 36 hours (within the 16-week period) to comply with the maximum average of 48 hours.
If an employee qualifies as night worker (see below), the maximum working hours per week must not exceed 40 hours.
