The general rule is that when goods are sent to Norway for temporary import for use in a sports event of an international nature, security must be provided for the import duties (cf. Section 4-6-3, first paragraph, letter d, of the Movement of Goods Regulations).

Carriers transporting goods for teams / partners etc. must contact the red zone at the Norwegian border. The goods are declared either by using an ATA Carnet, or by means of a temporary import declaration where security is provided for the import duties in the form of a deposit, or other form of guarantee. The ATA Carnet is an alternative to a declaration for temporary importation, which also serves as security for customs duties and other taxes.

Crates sent as air freight can be imported either using an ATA carnet, or by temporary import declaration.
